While the Press Screams Trump,
Canada’s Economy Is Ignored
As Canada heads toward another federal election, you might think Trump is the most important candidate in the running. That’s how much attention our media gives to Donald Trump.
Mark Carney, the Liberal Party’s new figurehead, has centered his campaign on one thing: standing up to Trump. But here at home? Our economy is on life-support.
Borrowing Money To Pay Debt Interest
Since the Liberals came to power in 2015, Canada’s national debt has more than doubled, with annual deficits baked into every budget. We are borrowing to cover day-to-day operations, and now we borrow to meet debt servicing costs. Think of it this way: if you have a maxed-out MC and are using your VISA to make the payments, how long before you run out of credit?
Every dollar spent paying interest is a dollar not spent on services, infrastructure, or tax relief. Approximately one-third of every dollar spent on interest on our debt is going to foreign sources. All those tax dollars are leaving the country and not paying for healthcare or education or defense. We are now spending 2X as much on debt interest as we do on national defense.
But don't expect to see this on the front page.
Instead, lamestream media outlets—many of whom receive millions in federal subsidies have chosen to elevate Trump as our greatest national threat. Meanwhile, government programs like the journalism tax credit and CBC’s billion-dollar annual budget quietly blur the line between watchdog and lapdog. You can't expect the lamestream media staffed by the presstitutes to bite the hand that feeds them. They would not exist without Liberal government largesse.
The result? A press more focused on U.S. politics than our financial future, and a public less informed about the economic storm we’re sailing into. The signs are everywhere, but go unreported as they point to real issues being ignored by our government.
Canada’s fiscal direction should be the story. Our national solvency is the real crisis, not Trump’s next tweet!
