Premier Danielle Smith Calls For A Border Czar

Smith Says Tariffs Can Be Avoided

Premier Smith Met With Donald Trump Informaly

US Tariff Threat Update

Premier Danielle Smith calls upon 'Team Canada' and the Prime Minister to seriously consider appointing a Border Czar to demonstrate to the USA we are taking border security seriously.

Quoting a member of the Trump government as saying 'if we are Canda's biggest trading partner, they need to show us some respect by tightening up their border, if they do there will be no need for tariffs'.

Smith, who is the only Candian leader to actually have gone to the States and talking with influential people in government has maintained that border security is the issue at the heart of the tension with the USA.

Smith points to the many steps her government has taken to harden the border at the Coutts crossing with increased manpower and equipment deployed to crack down on illegal immigration and drug smuggling.

In the meantime it would seem that most of the rest of Canadian leaders seem intent on threatening retaliation in a tit for tat tariff war rather than addressing the issue of border security. It may sound sexist but it would seem the boys are more intent of puffing up their chests while a woman Premier is intent on solving the problem while addressing the concerns rather than making empty threats.

You could argue that some Canadian 'leaders' are using the tariff threat to get Canadians eyes off of their abysmal performances by making Trump the bogeyman we all have to fight.

In Ontario Premier Ford has called a snap election (with over a year left on his mandate) and is clearly using the tariff issue as a campaign focus rather than the state of the province he has governed these past years.

Canadians need some real leadership at this crucial time and it appears the Premier of Alberta is the only leader who is intent on finding a solution rather than making Trump's tariffs a distraction from thier own ineptness.

Killing deficits have crippled our nation and our fragile state is on full display with the tariff threat coming from the USA. The decline in our currency against the USD is one example of how nine years of Trudeau's fiscal policy impacts everything we buy. In January of 2015 (under Stephen Harper) the Loonie was worth .875 USD and in Jan, 2025 it is now worth .695 . That is the posted rate but if you are converting CAD to USD your $100.00 will get you $67.82 USD.

If Team Canada wants to use the Tariff threat coming from the USA as a smoke screen for their pathetic performance, there is little chance Premier Smith's level-headed approach will be heeded.
